The advice in this slide is important. You are probably doing most of what is there. It is an aide memoir of what is expected. The role of the Cover Supervisor is not an easy one as we have seen from the many times we have delivered training to individuals and teams of Cover Supervisors over many years.
Remember to stand tall, be patient and resilient in the face of the sometimes difficult and trying situations. You are not the teacher but your role and reason for being there in the classroom is just as important as that of the teacher. Create for yourself a zero-tolerance approach to any kind of disrespect from pupils, from teachers who don’t provide the right cover and from leaders and managers who don’t act to put that right.
Also remember that most pupils who misbehave are attention seeking and if you pay them attention their behaviour won’t improve. Have a presence where you stand close by them so that they can see that you have them in your sights but don’t mention them by name, simply mention that behaviour. You might want to pass on your concerns but do it discreetly after the lesson is over with a relevant pastoral lead or the regular teacher.
Looks like you haven't made a choice yet.
