This slide is useful way to look at the theory in practice. What is happening in this situation is the teacher or in your case the Cover Supervisor is not focusing on the individual pupil and what they are doing or achieving but on the processes that they are using on their way to learning.
The processes here are;
A new way to solve a problem
Practising a skill
Knowing that it is ok to make a mistake as long you can learn and try again
Challenge me it helps my brain to grow
Praise can be counterproductive if it is seen as an end rather than a part of journey to new learning.
