Creating the Expert Music Teacher

Creating Expert Pedagogy, Building Confidence, Deepening Knowledge, Sequencing Learning

A live face to face webinar and a CPD box set of essential resources, materials and research linked to strengthening the expertise of teachers in the primary and early secondary phase who do not have first-hand expertise and qualifications in music; or who do but would like a refresher.

Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. In this course we look at how a high-quality music education inspires and engages pupils to acquire a love of music and develop talent in listening to, making and composing music.  We look at the vocabulary, concepts, themes and skills that will create a rich curriculum offer and that will support curriculum leaders and teachers of music to enrich their planning. We look at how to build pupils musical awareness that will ensure they can embrace music as part of a life-long appreciation, sing and play musically with increasing confidence and control and compose, organise and manipulate ideas within musical structures.

We look at the study of music through curriculum orders and other important research to unpick the key concepts, themes, processes and skills that music leads, heads of department and teachers must use to create a sequential and substantive curriculum that delivers high quality pedagogy and learning in music lessons and through many opportunities outside the school and the classroom to appreciate and learn more about the power of music.
