How this course will benefit you?

This event focuses on the role of the SENCO and their part in translating the school curriculum vision to ensure parity and deep learning opportunities for pupils who have special educational needs. As part of their ‘Quality of Education’ judgement OFSTED make it clear that the curriculum ambition for a school should include a range of different approaches and options that can lead to the most appropriate outcome for the local context of the school and the profile of its pupils. 

What will be covered in the course?

  •  A review of the role of the SENCO as a leader who can influence change in relation to ensuring the best outcomes for pupils with SEND
  • A deep focus on the curriculum standards and how the SENCO can empower subject leaders across the curriculum to ensure pupils with SEND have the same access to subject knowledge that is well sequenced, builds on prior learning and is planned towards clearly defined end points
  • An opportunity to reflect on the kinds of pedagogy that fosters independent learning and helps pupils towards developing communication, group work and problem-solving skills that will contribute to their acquisition of evidence that show they are learning and progressing towards achieving their full potential
  • Building a strategy using a coaching model to define what is currently working well and what changes can be implemented to create a curriculum offer that will ensure parity and rich learning for all pupils whatever their starting point

  • The SENCO– For those with SENCO responsibility this course provides a wealth of resources and powerful learning to support them in their role as a catalyst for ensuring all pupils with SEND have the same access to the curriculum as other pupils. The SENCO can influence the status quo and change perception of how the curriculum can be accessible to all and we offer some ways that the SENCO can support differentiation and strategies to close gaps in learning whilst creating opportunities for pupils to learn within a wide subject range.
