Description
Enhancing the role of the maths lead must be a critical and core element of the whole school vision. Maths is such an important element of learning in the primary school. It is an essential part of the core curriculum and has its place in many subjects across the rest of the curriculum.
The maths subject lead has to be profoundly experienced in how to empower all teachers to understand the importance of conceptual learning, the sequencing of maths learning over time and how every teacher must nurture pupils in order that they can reach the age related standards that are sequenced across the primary maths programmes of study.
This programme provides the matns subject lead and primary teachers across the two key stages and for early years with all they need to support teachers who need to work cohesively to build for pupils a learning platform that will build on their prior learning, allow them to practice, reflect and revisit their growing body of knowledge and apply their skills in a wealth of cross-curricular contexts
The programme is written by Glynis Frater author of Primary Curriculum Design and Delivery.
Most new teachers will have been exposed to a wealth of learning as they go through their ITT programme and maths is an essential element of the Early Career Framework however once in a school they continue to need support and continuous professional learning. More experienced teachers need to constantly refresh their knowledge and understanding and have the opportunity to work with other teachers in continuing to develop their pedagogical skills that will ensure all pupils become unconsciously competent in their use of number and maths techniques.
Enhancing the role of the maths lead is all about creating opportunities for collaboration with all those who teach and support the teaching of maths. We delve deeply into the programmes of study for maths, and focus on the esential need to ensure all pupils have achieve the age related standards and are secondary ready by the time they leave year 6.
