Cognitive Science in the Classroom – Putting Theory into Practice to Deepen Learning (Online)
One of the most important questions teachers need to ask is how children learn? How they process and retain the information they are taught?
Creating the right conditions to ensure pupils learn is a fundamental goal for every teacher
How will this course benefit you?
This course draws on the current research into cognitive science and its use in the classroom by looking at how the practical application of some of the techniques and principles can have an impact on how pupils build on prior learning, can apply their learning in different contexts and use their growing body of knowledge as a conduit for deepening their understanding. We have drawn on the theory to build a wealth of good practice examples and practical ideas and strategies for ensuring pupils learn and remember, retain and recall and can apply their learning in a wide range of contexts.
How we create the right conditions to ensure pupils learn is a fundamental goal for every teacher in every stage across the learning spectrum from early years to adulthood. The emergence of a body of research into cognitive science in relation to education and pedagogy reveals its value as to how pupils are stimulated to want to learn, how they retain their learning and how they apply learning across a range of contexts.
